Snowflake's business is booming. The company reported 37% growth in its product revenue, and the management team is so excited about the current fiscal year that they raised their estimates for how much revenue they expect they will generate this year up to over 6.07 billion dollars, which would represent over 36% growth compared to the prior year.

Of course, cash flow is increasing, profits are also increasing, and so investors are really excited about Snowflake's stock, and the price has increased considerably, especially after this quarterly financial update.

So, does all of this make Snowflake stock a buying opportunity? Let's evaluate the business together, compare it against the valuation, and determine the answer to that question.

But, this isn't the first time Snowflake has generated exciting revenue growth. It's been doing this for several years now. Its business has increased from around 100 million in revenue in 2019 up to over 5.4 billion in the most recent trailing 12-month period.

There was a moment when Snowflake was caught in the SaaS apocalypse where investors thought maybe Snowflake's business would be disrupted from artificial intelligence. Instead, the company has demonstrated accelerating growth and a beneficiary of the AI boom.

Now, in recent years, the company's improvements in cash flow from operations to sales have ended. For the first few years of the 2020s, its cash flow from operations improved from negative 10% all the way up to a peak of 30% in 2024. Since peaking at 30% its CFO to sales ratio has been trending lower at 23% in the most recent trailing 12-month period.

That's a little bit concerning and that demonstrates to me that in order to generate this improvement in growth, the management team has accelerated investment inside the company utilizing some new technology, some new spending to improve business performance on the top line, but it has come at the expense of certain improvements on the bottom line.

So despite this aggressive innovation, the management team remains focused on GAAP profitability by the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2028. And the management team said, "No, no, we're still focused on hitting that target by the fourth quarter of 2028."

Snowflake has also utilized its balance sheet to improve performance. You can see it peaked at around $4.7 billion in cash and short-term investments on the balance sheet. That has decreased to about $2.3 billion.

Of course, the balance sheet is still in pristine condition, but as the company accelerates investments, utilizes increasing spending for innovation, they've utilized the balance sheet, which is not necessarily a bad thing.

I'm open to this idea of Snowflake deploying more capital, reinvesting into the company. So, as I mentioned for a brief moment, Snowflake stock was caught up in that SAS apocalypse earlier in 2026, and its valuation dropped to a forward price to earnings of below 50. This was the cheapest you had been able to buy Snowflake stock, and it was one of the few moments, and I think I did a video, the title was something like, "For the first time ever, I'm upgrading Snowflake stock to a buy."

Because for the majority of the several years that I've been following Snowflake, it's traded at a premium valuation. I've rarely seen the stock trade at a price that low. And so, I, you know, capitalized on that opportunity, upgraded the stock to a buy, informed all of you that it was a great opportunity when it was at a forward price to earnings of less than 50.

But since then, the stock price has soared. It's now trading at a forward price to earnings of 113, which in my opinion is an expensive price to pay for Snowflake for what you're getting.

Sure, revenue is growing, but a little bit concerning me is the trend line decline for the cash flow from operations to sales ratio. And I wouldn't be picky about one metric amid all of these other metrics, unless I'm paying a super premium price like I am with Snowflake.

If Snowflake was trading at a forward price to earnings of 13, and there were one or two or even three metrics that were a little bit concerning, I would overlook that because the valuation is so cheap. I'm getting a good value. I expect to see some things that are not great about the business. But, when I'm paying a forward price to earnings of 113, I want almost everything to be excellent about the company because I'm paying a price that demands excellence.

I'm not paying a price that demands an average or slightly above average or just good. I'm paying a price at 113, which is roughly four times the average stock in the S&P 500. So, I expect to see absolutely excellent performance from a company that's trading at this kind of valuation.

I also updated my discounted cash flow model for Snowflake. I had a few revisions. Most notably, I revised higher my estimates for how much free cash flow I expect the business will generate by about $200 over each year over the next several years and increasing. So, the business is performing better than I estimated it would. So, I revised my estimates higher.

But, even after those estimates, I came to the conclusion that the stock is worth $212, higher than what I had before, but still below the $335 current market price.

So, to answer the question I posed in the introduction, is Snowflake stock a buying opportunity? I would say no. I would say the buying opportunity was earlier in the year.

It was short-lived during the SAS-pocalypse when Snowflake stock, as I shared with you in the chart, traded at a forward price to earnings of 50 or below.

But right now at these super premium valuations, I would wait for a better entry point. I have the stock rated as a hold as of this recording on September 8th, 2026.
