and then we will discuss Apple’s $2,000 phone.

I think Apple was on the list,

Ah, " Apple" for example.

On June 20, 2025, we did an episode about "Taff" with me, Michael, Todd Son, and Josh. And Michael, I said that we are at a very critical juncture for Apple.

very critical juncture for Apple. This is a ratio chart that you, Michael, shared in the previous podcast, and I ticked it when that episode aired. It simply shows the price of Apple divided by the SPY index.

Your point of view was that we were facing a very important dividing line , where the question was: "Will Apple collapse and the situation become very bad, or will this be a bounce point?", and that is exactly what happened; It was a reversal point, which, I think, reflects the importance of technical analysis, doesn't it?

I have seen a very important level that the stocks have touched several times and have maintained that line.

This chart now illustrates Apple's relationship to the Nasdaq 100. So , Apple is beginning to become completely uncorrelated with the other 99 stocks in the Nasdaq 100. This takes us back to 2003. That's a very long time.

Wait, it's not just a lack of connection, there's a negative connection. Entirely. Yes, a completely negative correlation. If you go back 30 trading days and look at the performance of the Nasdaq 100 versus Apple, you will find that they are moving in completely opposite directions.

This appears to be simply a reflection of the market's preference for other profitable companies. Or perhaps it is a result of other Nasdaq stocks performing well and the market expanding , but they are moving in completely opposite directions.

There are many overlapping factors in the story and in the chart we started with for Apple vs. SPY. This is why we respect technical analysis. Anyone could have looked at this chart and said, "Well, obviously something is going on here for reasons that don't matter, but it was a pivotal moment and the market did what it had to do."

As for what is happening today, Josh was quick to notice it, so he deserves credit. Apple is completely detached from the current news flow that focuses on artificial intelligence being everything.

They are the only ones who did that; We designed this chart previously to illustrate capital expenditure. We did it a year or two ago, maybe. It shows capital expenditure as a percentage of revenue, and we wondered: What the hell is Apple doing ?

What is Tim Cook thinking? They are simply not in the competition at all.

Last week, Josh suggested a reason why Tim Cook deserved to be on Mount Rushmore, perhaps because of certain things , and certain decisions he did n't make, which he did intentionally...not decisions he didn't make, but decisions he chose, and things he chose not to do , deliberately avoiding them.

He could certainly have directed them to do what everyone else was doing, but he went down a different path. And now it has a negative correlation, negative with respect to its components.

What are your thoughts on what's happening with Apple and the broader connection story?

Before we leave this topic, tomorrow is John Ternes' first major reveal . They will , I think, show the world the foldable iPhone , which they have been saying, just wait a little while.

Like other companies, this is nothing new. Samsung has had a foldable phone for ages. I think in order for Apple to be able to do that, at least that's what I read in the article.

In order to do that, they acknowledge that this technology existed. It could have been incredibly expensive. Okay, that's fine . whatever. It is still extremely expensive. So, this new phone will start at over $2000.

Um, I'm excited about it nonetheless . So, I want to ask you guys, will this be a complete failure or another resounding success for Apple?

I think this is very clever. I wrote a blog post about how there is a growing nostalgia for the past right now, and something like an analog device boom, and I think this product takes advantage of that.

I really think people are sick of opening their phones and being bombarded with Instagram notifications, and for younger people, Snapchat. I think people simply don't need a screen interface in front of them all the time.

So, the mere act of folding and unfolding the phone will be... I think many will abandon... I really think it will be a great release of the product, and people will abandon the current iPhone and switch to it.

I want it to succeed because I love Apple, its products, and its innovation, and I find it interesting that they are introducing something new, something they haven't done in a long time, it seems.

However, $2000 for a phone seems like too much. Matt , I said this, but people are trying to reduce their use of their phones. With more screen space, I feel this is geared towards those who watch movies or shows on their phones.

I don't really know. I feel like people won't want to pay $2,000 for something they're already starting to get bored with , but who knows? I would be happy if I were wrong.

Who would buy virtual reality glasses from Apple, for example? Who will do that? The fools. Fools, that's what I'm saying.

For example, if we all expected Apple to announce something amazing tomorrow and they actually did, it wouldn't matter much to the stock price. But if they perform slightly below expectations, that's where the difference lies.

One of the charts that we spoke about last week that Ed Zitron just steamrololled over was Nvidia's earnings, net income over the last 12 months compared to Amazon, uh, compared to Apple. And I said, "Holy [ __ ] this is remarkable." And he go, "No, it's not. No, it's not. It's not real. It's all the markups." "No, it's not. It's not the markups." We looked at operating earnings. It's the exact same chart. Operating earnings for Nvidia, what the business is actually generating.
