For retirement, I have $380,000 invested in FAVRX, a 2055 target date index fund within my 403b.

But Chanel, let's start answering your question about FAVRX. This is what everyone will do at home. I want you to type morningstar.com. This is a completely free platform, not sponsored.

Everyone uses it. Go to morningstar.com and you will see a small search bar at the top. Search for FAVRX. This is the Fidelity Freedom Index 2055 Fund Premium 2 Class. You will see a tab there called Performance.

I clicked on Performance and scrolled down. I can see 10 years of data, up to 2016, showing me the total return on investment. So, I see 9.4 in 2016, 20.5 in 2017, -7.1 in 2018.

Great. So, we have the total performance of this investment.

So, let's review it, Robert. In 2016, FAVRX returned 9.4%, while VOO was 12.1%. This is a difference of 2.5 percent. In 2017, FAVRX was 20.5%. VOO was 21.8%. I see a pattern. In 2018, FAVRX lost 7.2%.

VOO lost 4.5% in the same year. I really see a pattern. In 2019, VOO's was 31.5% compared to FAVRX's 26%.

He has another 30 years of compounding ahead of him, but he may have missed out on double-digit returns in those four years by putting his retirement funds in target date funds like FAVRX, rather than investing in the usual cheap VOO or QQQM or some other fund that floats with the market.

but I would say, over the last 10 years, you've probably lost 20 or 30 percent by putting money in this FAVRX target date fund, and you know, 10 or 15 percent of $400,000 is about $60,000.
