Next, we have some good news if you are an investor in Google. They have just managed to avoid a major dismantling of their advertising business. A federal judge rejected the Justice Department's request to break up their advertising business. This is the second time the court has rejected the government's efforts to break up the company after it was found guilty of adopting illegal monopolistic practices. So, Google was found to be a large and bad monopoly, but they did not have to give up the Chrome browser. That was a great victory. If Google had to abandon Chrome, that would be very bad. So they avoided that. Then there was a decision to be made as to whether or not they should break up part of their advertising business. This decision is a historic milestone that effectively closes the chapter on antitrust risks that Google has faced in the United States for nearly two decades. This is also another major blow to the anti-monopoly political movement that the two parties have embraced and that has grown over the past few years. Even with all this political incentive, and even with the Justice Department pursuing them, the judges proved very resistant to breaking up the companies, believing that this measure was too extreme. So, people who are hoping for Google to fall, and for the company to be broken up, cut up and sold at "auction", will be sorely disappointed because that's not going to happen anytime soon.
